This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Getting copies back in a timely manner in our school is almost impossible. It is by no means the fault of our school, but sometimes people put in huge requests and it is impossible to get back my own copies for days. My students need a copy machine.
I work in the South Bronx teaching sixth grade ELA at a middle school where 98% of the students receive free lunch.
It is difficult for them to bring classroom supplies, let alone help for the extra things we need in class. We complete tons of projects using Microsoft Office software and PowerPoint that require printing, so funding this project will be a huge help!
My Project
I teach sixth grade ELA. I would definitely consider myself, at times, a spur of the moment teacher. If an assignment sounds fun that a student has found in a book, I love to do it if I can. But sometimes that requires copies being made and I have no access to a machine. Anything that I do want copied requires approval and must be submitted in advance, so it makes things really difficult.
On top of not being able to make my own copies, I hate seeing paper wasted, especially when we are in such a budget crisis. By having access to a copy machine, my sixth grade team and I can make sure our copies are double sided and that no paper is ever wasted.
Having a copy machine will help us stay on track with testing and assessment and also allow us to do those really cool student discovered or spur of the moment projects, that they always beg us to do.
It would be such an amazing addition, not only to my classroom but to the rest of my middle school team.
