My Students
Christmas is a special time of year. Every adult who took part in a school or church Christmas program can probably remember something special about it, whether it be a special part they played or the decorations they helped make.
My students are very talented and creative students.
Unfortunately for them, they come from homes where craft supplies are not a necessity and many do not have the opportunity to make decorations for the holidays.
Over ninety percent of our school population falls into the free lunch category. We are very low poverty. I teach students who come from very young military families, from Native American families, from homes that are torn apart and ravaged by gangs and drug use and even homeless students. They are eager to learn and want to do things to please the adults in their lives.
My Project
Each of my students are working hard to present a wonderful program to their parents and families. This year in particular we have a problem. Our school budget is very limited and we do not have the money to purchase supplies to make the needed decorations for our presentation.
I am asking for a variety of construction paper colors, one bag of colored pom poms, 30 plastic pots, glue, one 25 pound container of plaster, 1 skein of yarn, 1 package of paper plates and other various supplies to help make the colored chains, holly wreaths, poinsettia plants and ornaments to turn our drab stage into a winter wonderland for these much deserving students.
By helping with this project, you might encourage one of my students to become a world famous artist or performer.
You help will make a dramatic difference in the excitement of students when performing this program and help make our story come alive. This might be the only Christmas performance some of my students will participate in, and I want it to be memorable for them. Your help to make this night a special night is a wonderful gift of the season.
