This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This year, I am teaching community based instruction, a class that focuses on building the job skills students need to succeed in securing and maintaining a job. My students will learn essential skills related to the cleaning services industry such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, cleaning windows and disinfecting door knobs and other surfaces.
The community based instruction program focuses on helping students develop job skills and practice them either in a school-based setting or in the community.
My students are visual and kinesthetic learners, meaning they learn best when engaged in hands on tasks. They would benefit greatly from practicing these skills within the school setting, with support from staff. Students will learn how to manage a cleaning cart, making sure that it is stocked before going out to clean a spill. All the items included in this cart, are similar to the supplies they will use when they get a job. This will help students generalize the skills they practice in school to other job places, thus setting them up for success upon graduation.
