My Project
Our 6th-grade classroom needs 35 copies of Wonder by R.J. Palacio to support our novel study. This powerful story teaches empathy, kindness, and perseverance—values our students need as they navigate middle school. In our rural Minnesota community, where many students qualify for free and reduced lunch, access to high-quality books is often limited. A classroom set ensures that every student can fully engage with the text, whether reading independently, in pairs, or during whole-class discussions. These books will be used year after year, making a lasting impact on students for generations.
This book will directly help my students meet Minnesota 6th-grade ELA standards.
Through our novel study, students will analyze character development, cite textual evidence (6.4.1.1), and compare themes across texts (6.4.9.9). They will also write personal narratives (6.7.3.3) and opinion essays (6.7.1.1) connected to the novel’s themes of acceptance and inclusion. Beyond academics, Wonder fosters important conversations about kindness and respect, shaping students into more compassionate individuals. Your support will provide a meaningful reading experience that will benefit not just this year’s class, but many future 6th graders as well.
