it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are incredible, resilient learners who face unique challenges every day. They are predominantly children of color from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, and many have disabilities such as autism, learning disabilities, and emotional or behavioral disorders. These exceptional students come to school with a desire to learn, even when the traditional classroom setup isn’t built for them.
One major obstacle they face is the struggle to sit still in standard chairs.
Many of my students have sensory needs that lead them to constantly move—rocking, tipping, or leaning in their seats—which can be unsafe and distracting. I’ve seen students fall from chairs multiple times simply because they’re trying to self-regulate in a space that doesn’t meet their needs.
That’s why I’m requesting flexible seating options like wobble stools, balance chairs, and floor cushions. These seating solutions will give my students the freedom to move in a safe and controlled way. It will help them stay focused, reduce distractions, and keep our learning environment safer and more supportive.
My goal is to make our classroom a welcoming, inclusive space where all students can learn comfortably and confidently. Flexible seating is not just furniture—it’s a step toward equity, safety, and success for students who already work hard to overcome so much.
Thank you for helping my students feel supported, seen, and ready to learn!
