Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students live in Watsonville and many are migrant students whose parents work very hard day in and day out. My school is a Title I school meaning that a large percentage of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

My students are enthusiastic learners, kind to one another, and excited about the possibilities their future may hold!

Students at my school are inquisitive, compassionate, and creative. As English language learners, books are so important to my students and are truly valued. Our classroom library is an essential resource for my students. Most of my students do not have access to books at home and rely on our classroom library to check out high-quality books. When a new book is added to the library, the students buzz with excitement over who will get to read it first!

My Project

These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. Every student book that is placed in my library is a real treat for my students and they are thankful for the opportunities to read. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind and their development into accepting members of society who accept all kinds of people.

With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level.

They will also be able to choose books that interest them as well as help broaden their world view! My students deserve to not only see books that feature students that look like them but also to read books that teach them about the diverse world around us.
