Recently our school purchased a program to enrich our reading program. This is a computer based program that enhances reading comprehension. A Toshiba Thrive touch tablet will create excitement for the program and make it easier for my students to take the independent tests at their seats.
We are a first grade class located in a suburban neighborhood in California.
We are a public school that serves grades kindergarten through fifth grade. My students are very capable learners and are excited about school. Due to budget restraints we are just beginning to integrate technology with learning in first grade.
My Project
Reading comprehension is a skill needed for all students to access the curriculum throughout their lives. We are very excited to have our new computer program that emphasizes comprehension beginning in first grade. Students can now independently read a book at their determined level, either at home or at school, and then at school take a test to build comprehension skills. In order to take these tests portable computers are needed in my classroom. We have very limited resources for technology. A Toshiba Thrive Tablet and docking station will provide my students with the tools and opportunity to take these test independently and quietly doing center time. A Toshiba Thrive is very portable so they will be able to easily take the tablet to their seats to work. The touch screen is good technology for their little fingers to maneuver and it easily connects to our wireless system as well. Without this technology it will be difficult for my students to take these tests in our classroom.
Please help my students become lifelong readers and learners by providing my classroom with the needed technology to access our new reading comprehension program easily and independently.
