Thank you for reviewing my proposal for an alphabet rug.
I am a first grade teacher in a low-socioeconomic community. Many of my first grade students do not have support at home to teach them the basics, such as counting to 10 and learning the alphabet, due to a language barrier. Last year, I had students who did not attend kindergarten and had no knowledge of the alphabet.
A fellow teacher of mine had an alphabet rug that she received from DonorsChoose. I watched how she used the rug as an educational tool for the students to learn the alphabet. She played games with the students using the rug and they learned letter recognition, decoding, phonemic awareness, and blends. I was amazed by how much students learned using the rug.
Currently, I have a worn out, plain blue rug. After viewing the cost of the rug, I couldn't afford it out of my own pocket so that is why I am asking for a donation.
Thank you for considering my proposal.
