My Students
I start the day by greeting my students at the door with a smile and a hug. I want them to know that I care for them, and I want to give them a fun and loving place to learn. My goal is for my students to be confident learners and to have a passion to learn new things. Aim high and reach the stars!
I teach second grade in a Title I school, which means that there is a high number of students who are on free and reduced lunch.
Students come from various backgrounds. Some of them are homeless, some live with their grandparents, and some live with one parent. I care about all my students and I personally believe that if they are given love, attention, encouragement, and inspiration, they can become successful in anything.
Often, students give up easily when they are faced with a challenging math problem. I would like my students to be more confident and enjoy learning math. Students are more likely to comprehend a skill by being involved in math centers and games.
My Project
There is a Chinese proverb that describes how I like to teach: Tell me, I'll forget. Show me, I may remember. But involve me, and I'll understand. My students are so passionate to learning when they are involved and have the opportunity to work with each other.
My second graders need hands-on math activities to reinforce math skills as well as build communication skills with one another. These Math Activity Stations will help my students improve their skills in geometry, math fluency, counting money, understand place value, fractions, measurement, and telling time. These are skills that students need to be able to apply to be successful in the world, and I want to make sure I have tools and resources to help them do wonders in our world.
I want to make sure that my students have the tools to be successful when they get out in the world.
There are so many jobs out there that require a knowledge of math skills. My students need to be confident and proficient in math. Also, these resources require students to communicate, work in teams, and share. Most jobs require people to communicate effectively, collaborate with others, and share. Using these math stations will help my students build their social and communication skills.
