I teach 4th grade in a Title I school in Brooklyn, N.Y. I have 24 students and 22 of them receive free or reduced lunch, along with the other 96% of students in the school. We do not have a school library, so our classroom libraries must be the hearts of the classroom.
Having 24 students in my class, there are hundreds of different interests. Right now, our classroom library does not support all of these interests because we have a limited amount of books and literary genres.
In order to support my students' learning and helping to gain a love and ownership of reading, I am in great need of various texts. I have chosen books that will help to support each of my students in their individuality. These texts, in various formats and genres, will also help students' gain an appreciation for all that reading has to offer in their lives.
If you choose to donate to my proposal, please know that you will be changing the lives of 24 beautiful children. Because for most of them life at home is very unstable, reading is not a top priority. Many of these children have never even been to a public library. Please help them to see that reading can open millions of new doors to new worlds for each of them!
