My Project
I am a Special Education teacher in a third grade self-contained class in a Title I school. Our school consists of culturally and linguistically diverse students within a low socioeconomic community.
Can you imagine how a classroom environment that limits sensory stimulation would enhance students’ learning experience?
My special education students have been diagnosed with various exceptionalities including learning difficulties, speech impairments, ADHD, Autism, and sensory issues.
Our classroom needs chair glides in order to lessen the noise of moving chairs, and avail my students the opportunity to stay calm and focused.
Our students enjoy working cooperatively, however, several are overly sensitive to sounds. As a result they withdraw and avoid being engaged, thereby inhibiting their learning.
Please make it possible for us to create a calm, quiet and engaging environment for the students by easing their sensory issues, and enabling them to take an active role in learning.
