My Students
Do you remember how hard you studied for the SAT? Imagine having to take the test when English isn't your first language. My students need effective tools to help them study for this intimidating test.
My students are all immigrants and English language learners from China.
They are excited to have the opportunity to attend an American high school and dream to go to an American university. Even though they are working diligently to do well in high school, pass their regents and do well on the SAT, they never complain and actually come to school everyday excited for further opportunities to make their dreams come true. They have received higher than city average scores on almost all their Regents exams and look forward to doing the same with the English Regents.
My Project
The SAT produces a lot of anxiety in even the best of students. My students are doing well considering they are English language learners, but the verbal and writing sections are a major challenge. With the Flocabulary book and CD, they will have access to hip hop songs that will excite and educate them. Each song has dozens of SAT words built into their catchy tunes. Each song is also accompanied by activities to help them practice the vocabulary. It is hard to separate teens from their ipods, but I am hoping to use it to my advantage in this case!
My students try so hard to do so much with the little resources they have.
If they had more resources they could go even farther. Having this book and CD will help them become college ready and a step closer to having their dreams come true.
