My Students
My students are committed to creating portraits for an amazing program, The Memory Project, but we need your help!
My students attend an urban high school and they are mostly seniors.
Even though they have a lot on their plate and they come from neighborhoods that are far from affluent, they are committed to having a lasting impact on the lives of children in other countries who have even less. They want to create 30 portraits of children with The Memory Project. The Memory Project is an initiative in which art students create portraits for children and teens around the world who have been orphaned, neglected, or disadvantaged. Given that kids in such situations usually have few personal keepsakes, the purpose of the portraits is to provide them with a special memory of their youth and to help honor their self identity. This project also allows my art students to practice kindness, empathy, and service to others.
My Project
We are currently seeking sponsors to support this initiative, as the Memory Project asks for $15 per portrait to coordinate their international delivery. By sponsoring a portrait you will not only be helping my wonderful art students to practice reaching out and helping others but you will also enable them to make a connection with other children from an entirely different culture. This project really is a great example of "paying it forward". Because of wonderful donors like you my art students where able to create 30 portraits for children in Ghana last school year. My new art students this year have seen how successful the project was and they are very motivated and eager to create their own portraits for The Memory Project!
This project is so important because as part of the project my students last year watched a video of their portraits being delivered.
They saw the children's faces on the other side of the world light up when the received their portraits.
My students learned about charity, empathy and how they as an individual can have a positive impact on the world through this project.Thank you very much for considering our important request.
