Help me give my students an updated classroom library. My classroom consists of students who struggle to read for various reasons. Help me get them excited about reading by giving them books about things they are interested in.

My Project

My classroom consists of students who are behind in their reading abilities for various reasons (dyslexia, ADHD, Autism, sensory processing disorders), and the challenges they face with reading make them reluctant to want to read at all. Please help me get them excited about reading by building a classroom library of books that meet their specific interest. Having a library in the classroom means immediate access to books. This reduces barriers to reading, such as the need to visit a public library or rely on limited home resources. Kids can explore new titles whenever they want, encouraging more frequent reading.

Our current classroom library is outdated, worn, and limited.

While we spend plenty of classroom time reading the required curriculum and implementing tier 3 reading interventions, my students have almost no interest in reading outside of instruction time. The books and book sets I have selected have been catered to each student's interests and requests when I asked them what books would get them more excited about reading. When students find books that engage them personally, they’re more likely to read regularly and develop a love for reading, which is crucial for improving their skills.

Today, I am an avid reader who digests 2-3 books a month, but I was not always this way. It was in remembering my own journey to the love of reading that inspired me to create this Donors Choose. All it takes is one book, one story, that can captivate your interest and imagination and get you hooked on words.
