Help My Students Gain Independence With After-School Programs!
My students need to update our classroom for interactive learning and after-school programs with folders and cabinets, language software, and movies, and to use Chromebooks and software to compete in the middle school business start up!
Although our students come from low income neighborhoods, they continue to prove how high-achieving they truly are. The growth in their maturity is matched by their new sense of determination to further explore the world and make their own lasting impression. They are interested in so many different topics, and are always looking for ways to share their talents. We could need to give them more ways of showing off these talents that reflect the digital world they live in.
I want my students to think for themselves, so giving them access to technology that will allow them to do independent research projects will give them that opportunity.
I want to challenge them because I already know how brilliant they are; I want them to realize it as well!
My Project
Today's students are digital natives, but that doesn't always mean that they have experience using technology to gain and share knowledge. We know that students need access to the types of technology they will use in college and in the work place to become more independent thinkers.
With your help, my students can learn how to direct and guide their own learning by using technology to conduct research projects and share what they've learned with a larger audience.
Student engagement increases when we make our learning experiences meaningful to them and give them opportunities to choose the path they take. Chromebooks not only provide these opportunities, but give students access to a full range of technological tools that can be used across disciplines. We want to supplement the technology with software and media to support a few different after-school programs. Our film students will become critics for the classics on DVD's while our entrepreneurs will create a mock business for the start up challenge. The technology will help them design their business, balance the books, and set goals and expectations for their first year in business.
In total, these materials will be supporting a number of initiatives we hope to launch with our students, and the storage basket and filing cabinets/folders will help us juggle between these activities within the same week.
