This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I remember after a long week of drudging through yet another dry curriculum text, one of my 7th grade students said something that would stick with me all year: "Maybe if we actually read something interesting, I would like reading." I realized then that most of my students did not have a love for reading like I did as a middle schooler due to often boring texts and lack of resources.

This project will create a diverse and vast library of books that students ACTUALLY want to read.

I have a small library in my room full of old, unwelcoming books that have been passed down by teachers of years past that this project is aiming to revitalize. Students hardly have any options to choose from during free read times, or simply to take home and enjoy.

By expanding my classroom library and including high-interest books that are accessible, I can hopefully foster a love for reading within many of my students. Additionally, class sets of certain non-fiction books that coincide with our curriculum will replace books that students have notoriously found uninteresting and unengaging. Please help me in making reading enjoyable for my students again!
