Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
One of my main goals as a teacher is to help my students become strong, thoughtful readers who see books not just as work but as ways to learn about new things, places, and points of view. I want to assemble a set of class novels so my students can read in small groups or "literature circles." They can pick from a few interesting books and talk about the stories in a more personal and involved way.
Many of my students have never read an entire novel with a group.
Giving them interesting books that they can relate to will make all the difference in the world. Every student has the chance to find their own story by having access to a wide range of books. Some stories may be similar or may show them a very different life.
Through these books, my students will learn important skills like critical thinking, discussion, empathy, and working together in a fun and useful way. Plus, there's something special about picking up a book, turning the pages, and talking with your friends about it. It helps you remember what you read.
With your help, books could get into kids' hands and let them experience the power of reading together. Thanks for helping us build a group of interested, driven people!
