Help My Students Escape the Regular Classroom

My students need tablets, locks, and other supplies to support our escape room learning activities.

My Students

I teach in a 3rd grade co-taught classroom with a special education teacher. I teach reading, math, and writing. I have 20 students, 15 of which are reading below grade level and 5 are reading on grade level. Three of my below level readers are reading on a primer level.

All my students are fun, energetic, and love to learn.

I have found that my students respond best with some unusual learning techniques and environments. They love games and competitions! They love "out of the box" teaching styles. They come from various backgrounds with a variety of support from home, some with minimal, and some with very involved parents.

My challenge will be great this year as my students will be taking the state testing for standards of learning at the end of the year.

My Project

I chose lock boxes, combinations, and tablets to assist my students in learning "outside the box". With these supplies, I will be creating escape room learning activities.

Students will be involved in reading, math, and writing as they read clues, use the tablets to access QR codes, and discover the hidden numbers to unlock the combinations.

This will allow for exciting learning to occur all throughout the year.

Students will have to work together and this fosters a family learning community where everyone has a role. This will give an opportunity for students to work independently with each other, which is our goal in third grade.
