Help My Students Deal With Feelings and Change Through Literacy!
Help me give my students the opportunity to listen and learn from various books that will help them understand about feelings, changes, transitions, transformations, and getting ready to go to Kindergarten.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My Pre-K class consists of 18 wonderful, inquisitive, and sweet children. Every day the children loved to come to school to learn and socialize!
Unfortunately, it is no longer safe to go to a physical classroom.
My young students still, however, need to keep connected to eachother and to me, their teacher. They still need to learn important concepts. I am hoping I can make that happen in the best possible way through the use of technology through our remote learning classroom.
My Project
This is a very tough time right now for young children. One day we were all in school together, and the next we were not. There was no opportunity for personal goodbyes or explanations in NYC. It was announced over the weekend we would not be returning and that was the end of the school year for us all.
Young students already have a difficult time dealing with change but this added confusion and stress to that situation.
Of course, none of us are in control during a pandemic and we must do with is safe for everyone. Young children, however, don't fully understand why this is happening. They need help coping with it through age-appropriate activities and stories.
My Pre-K students are very young and just learning to understand the concept of growing, changing, and transitioning. In our last month of school, I would like to offer them more emotional support through read-aloud where they can listen to age-appropriate books on these subjects.
The books I am asking for, deal with understanding feelings, mindfulness, relationships, the changes we go through in all aspects of life, the changes the world and animals go through, the science behind change and transformation. I am also asking for books on social distancing so they can understand why we are doing it. In addition, I want to provide them with books on saying goodbye to school and friends and getting ready to embark on the new adventures of Kindergarten!
I am asking for chart paper, markers, and a magnetic shelf to help teach them via distant learning.
