Funding this project will help create an active learning math classroom for approximately 60 7th grade math students. Flexible seating increases student engagement which is directly correlated with increasing student learning.
Flexible seating/active classrooms have many benefits including:
Choice
Physical Health
Comfort
Community
Collaboration
Commitment to learning
Communication
Sensory Input
Fun
Flexible seating gives students the outlet to fidget as needed while remaining focused on learning and not disrupting others. Flexible seating also gives students more freedom of choice which allows them to be more invested in their learning.
My Project
Students today have the need to move as they learn. Funding this project will give my students the choice of having another way to sit and engage in classroom learning. Stability balls create better posture and allow students to wiggle and move during class without being disruptive.
The stability balls will be used daily by 3 math classes and one remediation class.
The balls will give students the freedom to choose a method of seat that helps them becomes more engaged and active learners. Students who are actively engaged and invested in their learning are more likely to succeed. Success is the main goal!
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
