This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am currently a fifth grade mathematics teacher in a low-income district. My students are behind academically.
I am currently teaching out of the Everyday Mathematics curriculum, which I enjoy. What I don't enjoy is that my students are not ready for the 5th grade math curriculum. I am often faced with the question, "How will I move my students?" It is extremely hard to move them, when I don't have the resources I need.
I've asked for resources that will help my students become better problem solvers. My students have a difficult time breaking word problems and they are not offered enough opportunity with the curriculum to do so. I have requested a classroom set of 5th grade problem solving workbooks. a real world math problem solving kit, a mastering math games library and a problem solving card bank.
Your donation will help my students for the rest of their lives. With math, once a student understands they never forget. That is what I want for all of my students.
