This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember all the energy you had as a 5 and 6 year old? Do you remember how good it felt to get out and use that energy in fun outdoor games? It is my goal to get my Kindergartens to be healthy, happy, and fit through going outside and being active!

I teach wonderful, energetic 5 and 6 year old Kindergarten students in a high-need school.

They love to learn, play, and go outside each day. The problem we face now is that my Kindergarten class does not get gym (physical education class) at all and our school yard is a barren space with little to do but run around.

My Project

We all know America is facing an obesity crisis right now. Children absolutely need to exercise, get air, and let that extra energy go so they can focus on academics in class. Most kids have a gym class to do this but our class doesn't. I would like to teach my class some fun, physical activities that can help them stay fit and practice their gross motor skills and have fun! Our class needs jump ropes, a swirling disc, a balance rocker, balance games, a parachute, and a walking rope for trips to the park.

Having these materials would ensure that the 5 and 6 year old children in my class will have time each day to have outdoor physical activity and engage in fun gross motor activities.
