Help me give my students tools for social-emotional learning and self-regulation in the classroom. The Ninja Life Hacks Self-Management book sets and other SEL and restorative justice books will be a great addition to the classroom.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I would love for my students to gain skills in self-regulation in the classroom. After COVID, I feel that students do not have the social-emotional skills needed to self-regulate in the classroom which hinders their learning. I would like to use the books to enhance lessons to support SEL in the classroom. I would like to create a calm-down corner in my classroom where students can go and calm down by using one of the many fidgets and calm-down activities like finger mazes that they can use while they practice their breathing. Once students can learn to self-regulate, then they can begin learning at a deeper level.

When student engagement is high, it enriches students learning, makes it memorable, and supports higher-order thinking.

One of the things I am passionate about is hands-on learning, and I would love to bring more projects into the classroom. Project-based learning allows students to show their multiple intelligences in diverse ways. The air-dry clay, playdough, model magic, and science models will support hands-on learning in the classroom

Having a way to organize materials to be more accessible to students will help things feel organized and calm. An organized and calm classroom in turn helps with the overall climate in the room and makes materials easily accessible to students.
