My Project
My Students will benefit from headphones! Not only do students enjoy listening to music, but some studies have suggested that listening to music can improve focus and concentration. During workshop time I let me students listen to music they enjoy to keep themselves focused. Students listen to books or follow along with stories during center time or other independent work time. This can be a good scaffold for students who aren’t reading independently or for students that are learning English. This can also be used to assess students' listening comprehension. If I can purchase headphones with a built-in microphone, I can even have students work on their speaking skills! In addition to listening to stories, students can also listen to questions being read them during online assessment. This allows students who know that content but struggle with reading, same access to the assessment as their peers that can read independently. Using headphones along with other technology in the classroom can help me customize the learning experience for each student in my classroom. There are so many great education apps and games out there, but my students will need a pair of headphones to be able to play and learn without distracting others. Remember, that having some technology and headphone rules in place can help ensure that students remain on task while playing and learning.
