Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The mission of our school is to dedicate itself to providing quality education for inner city elementary students in Los Angeles. We partner with the parents and community to provide a safe and nurturing environment. Most students receive a free lunch and all students receive free breakfast.
My class is a kindergarten & 1st grade self-contained autism program, with some students also having the combined difficulty of being English language learners.
I have 10 unique students in my classroom this year. These students love to learn but face many challenges in their young lives. I hope to provide them with the tools and inspiration they need to succeed with their academic and social skills.
My Project
The students in my K-1 self-contained autism class need visual, auditory, and tactile supports to reinforce ideas and concepts. Furthermore, as most of my students are from low-income households and English language learners, they also desperately need this support to help them learn about the world.
A projector will help show my students things that they would never experience in their lives, while the printer will help me create specialized worksheets to fit their unique educational needs.
When a lesson is scaffolded with visual and auditory support, every student has a better chance of success. Also, with the sensory support of a weighted blanket, struggling students will have the ability to calm themselves, giving them a chance to relax, focus and be ready to learn again.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
