My Students
I am a speech language pathologist working in a K0-6 Elementary School in an urban area with students who are primarily English language learners. My caseload consists of 42 students between the ages of 3 and 12 years old with a variety of diagnoses including: intellectual impairments, Down Syndrome, autism, hearing loss, language-based learning disability, speech-language delays, congenital disabilities, fluency disorders, ADHD, articulation disorders, apraxia, seizure disorder, and neurological impairment. My students attend substantially separate and general education classrooms.
My Project
My students will use their core boards, topic boards and communication books printed in color to communicate their basic wants and needs as well as access the curriculum. Students will use their communication books to expand their language skills using words divided into categories to use language more effectively. Peers and teachers will be able to understand my students with significant communication disorders by seeing which picture or pictures my students select to formulate phrases and sentences. My students will be able to communicate effectively using materials printed in color.
