My Students
Learning to read can be a challenge-especially when there aren't enough beginner books around to learn with! Teaching my students to read would be so much easier if we had a large supply of kindergarten level books available in the classroom for my students to practice with.
I teach a diverse kindergarten class.
Several of my students are ELL (English Language Learners) and are learning to speak English for the first time in my classroom. Many of my students were not able to afford preschool, and so they are attending school for the first time when they walk into my classroom. Although they may not have been exposed to many literacy concepts before they came to kindergarten, I want them to leave my classroom with a solid foundation in reading.
My Project
There's no reason learning to read has to be difficult. When you have the right resources available in the classroom, every child can get the reading practice he or she needs to be successful. Help me turn my young students into avid readers with 4 sets of kindergarten level books. These book sets will add 80 new books to our classroom for my students to read. These books are special because they are written with very simple text so they are perfect for students who are just learning to read. The more my students practice reading, the better they will get at it-but they can't practice if we don't have enough books!
