In light of recent tragic events, my students bring about hope for a better future. While they hail from all over the globe, speak a multitude of different languages, and come from a wide array of economic situations, they work together in unity. Through playing in a band together, they learn the values of teamwork, tolerance, understanding, and loyalty. We see our wonderful diversity as an asset and a strength. I can only hope that they can carry this notion of setting aside differences to achieve unity in the future.
My students are energetic, determined, and love to share their musical gifts with the school and the local community.
They are truly a joy to behold.
My Project
Home practice is essential to the development of young musicians. Because learning an instrument involves a high degree of muscle memory, students do not progress far without the reinforcement that home practice provides. Unfortunately, many of our instrument cases are broken while other sustained damage (mold and decay) due recent flooding caused by Tropical Storm Ida. New cases will allow more students to take home instruments to practice.
After 19 months of silence, music fills the basement daily!
The students are enthusiastically learning their first notes and look forward to sharing performances with the school community in the Spring. The new cases will allow more students to reach their extraordinary potential through home practice. Thank you for supporting our band community!
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
