My students need books for their after school book club. We are asking for quality titles like: After the Fall, The Bad Seed and Triangle.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students in our school are bright, conscientious scholars who come to school every day ready to learn. Even though we are located in an area of low economic development and over half of our students are already labeled at-risk--they rise above those classifications and put everything they have into learning.
Many of our students began as what we call "reluctant readers".
Reading was frustrating for them at first and they need to work on their confidence when it comes to fluency and comprehension. Graphic novels are a great way to do that. The text is easy to read and with lots of visuals, it's easy to figure out what is going on.
My Project
Our school has started to hold book clubs after school for our students. The kids volunteer to stay late one day a week and we read the books together discuss the stories and then the students can check out books to continue reading at home.
My school is located in a very low economic area.
My students do not have the access to resources that many students in wealthier areas have. These experiences reading stories together and learning new vocabulary has been so valuable for them. We would read a story for example about cooking soup and I would bring in onions, garlic and cutting boards to show them how they could make connections with that vocabulary that was new to them.
The students ask me all the time "is it book club today?"-I LOVE to see them get so excited about reading stories and developing relationships with other bookworms. Your donation could help spark a passion for reading in our young students that will follow them throughout their academic career.
