Help My Art Students Become Technology SuperStars!
My students need a visual arts program enriched by the technology and multimedia that this Apple T.V. will bring to their art on a cart experience at school.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In a world where children are surrounded by test scores there is a desperate need for art and creativity. Help me bring the world's artists and museums to my students, enhancing their creativity, opening their minds and improving their test scores.
Learning "art from a cart" can be a challenging situation for my K-8th grade elementary school students.
Without a classroom, we sometimes have to make do and often technology and visual resources get left behind. Apple T.V. would open up a world of images and experiences for my visual arts learners.
The students at the public school where I teach are enthusiastic learners from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. We are a kindergarten through eighth grade elementary school. My students face academic and artistic challenges with vigor and excitement and I am privileged to be their visual arts teacher. My students are 97% low-income and are primarily Hispanic-American, many 1st or 2nd generation, with minimal understanding of cultures other than their own. Through visual art, my students will discover differences and similarities that exist between their world and those of other cultures.
My Project
My art program is taught from a crate in their academic classrooms. The students welcome me into their space and dive right into whatever art experiences I present to them; they do not see or feel the limitations that I sometimes do. I relish the thought of being able to share limitless images with them, snippets of interviews with artists of designers and to take them on tours of the world's museums. I could share many more project samples, resources and inspirational images than can currently fit into my small cart. Since I cannot bring them to an art studio, I could bring the art studio to them in the form of multimedia. A world of video art, design and galleries will be opened up to them through the use of my existing laptop and Apple T.V. images, presentations, processes and experiences.
Sharing technology and the information that access to technology can bring is an important part of teaching my students the skills they need to be competitive.
Their experiences can be limited and giving us the ability to access the wealth of resources available online would open up new worlds for them, providing countless opportunities for growth and self discovery.
