My Project
Dyslexic children typically have difficulty absorbing new information, especially if it is abstract or involves memorizing sequences or steps. Multisensory teaching techniques help break down these barriers to learning by making the abstract more concrete, turning lists or sequences into movements, sights, and sounds.
I am a dyslexia therapist and I serve dyslexic students in multiple small groups and grade levels using the multi-sensory curriculum created through the Scottish Rite Hospital, Take Flight.
This curriculum is research-based and provides students with the direct explicit instruction that combines listening, speaking, reading, and tactile or kinesthetic activities. Many resources and supplies are necessary to ensure that the students are participating in instruction that involves each of the methods of multi-sensory learning listed above and to ensure repetition is provided in a variety of ways.
