Help Me Win the Storage War in My Kindergarten Class!
My students need order in the classroom! There is absolutely NO storage and we simply need space for manipulatives, books, writing folders, supplies, and a place to chart.

My Students
My kindergarten students begin their day by fetching their morning journals, and writing and correcting the daily message. Next, they transfer this digitally into their kidblog on the chromebooks. Students rotate throughout the day in a blended learning model, that takes them all over the classroom!
Because they are only five and six years old, my students are bundles of energy!
They cannot be expected to sit still for more than 15 or 20 minutes at a time. I have solved this issue by incorporating a lot of movement into their day. They travel in groups to various stations, around the classroom, throughout the day. This has been very trying, as there is NO storage in the room. I managed to afford one flea market find, in the form of a beat up wooden shelf. It is actually quite cute, BUT we need a place for math manipulative's, books, art supplies, etc. I believe that the order we create and maintain in our lives, is a reflection of the organization or lack thereof in our minds. My wonderful students deserve to have an organized, well-managed space, so that their smart brains have an opportunity to be decluttered to learn!
My Project
Because we used a blended learning rotational model, my students will travel to each of our newly purchased shelving units to complete tasks. This might look like a sensory bin that allows them to learn phonemic awareness, tangram's to practice their logic and reasoning skills, or to access books to practice silent sustained reading.
Having a well-maintained classroom, sends so many wonderful and powerful messages to students from an expectation of excellence, to personal pride in their work habits, because students take their cue from you, the leader of the classroom.
And just as a tidy, clutter-free environment conveys a message of respect, politeness, and attention to detail, a messy room signals, to all who enter, that mediocrity is okay to students.
