Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Spanish in Idaho. This is a rural community, with a high immigrant population. The high school is a low-income school with a 55% free and reduced lunch rate. I teach a mixture of students from grades 9-12 with the majority being 9th and 10th graders.
We have limited classroom supplies for the teachers as this is a low-income school district. I teach introductory Spanish and I love to get my kids really interested and excited to explore the language. My students do not have the resources or supplies that would enable them to expand their scope of learning another language through art projects and crafts. I would love to give my students more projects and assignments involving hands-on learning. Most art-type supplies are purchased by teachers with their personal funds.
My students need more basic art supplies, like markers, glue, pencils and colored paper, to help them learn Spanish through illustration and the creation of hands-on activities. I want to make Spanish more tactile and concrete to help students get a better grasp of learning new vocabulary, grammar and verb tenses. I need your help to make this happen. The acquisition of a second language is very important in today's society and completion of two years of foreign language is a requirement by most colleges.
Your donation will give students the tools and art supplies they need to grasp new language ideas and begin their path to another language. My goal is to inspire my first-year Spanish students to have the thirst and want to continue on to high level Spanish courses.
