Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Calculus is a difficult subject especially without the proper technology to learn it. Students need to learn the concepts from different perspectives and these concepts are best understood if students can see the verbal, numerical, analytical and graphical connections among them. My students are currently using and sharing outdated calculators that are confusing to use. They come from low-income families and many of them do not come to school with the calculator because their parents can not afford it. Over half of the students at our school receive free lunch. Many of my students are hardworking. In fact, they stay after-school for tutoring sessions so that they can borrow my personal calculator to do their homework problems independently.

My Project

Online learning has become a new experience for students, parents, and educators. Having to go from in person to fully computerized learning has been quite challenging. With in person classes you are able to easily demonstrate and model activities or even have the supplies you need at the drop of a hat. With online learning, there is more preparation and pre-planning that needs to happen. Women and minorities fall need to be recognized for their contributions to Math and Science. This technology will inspire students to collect data, fully understand, research innovations that lead to the rise of women's critical thinkers all around the world throughout history. They will also be able to use it to draw detailed diagrams as this tablet was specifically built to be touch-sensitive for professional artists. This Wacom will also demonstrate to students that STEM is very present throughout our lives and the humanity fields.

Regardless, this challenge has presented a new opportunity for a new type of learning.

Since everyone is in such different environments we don't all necessarily have the same resources. To tackle this challenge, the Wacom board will allow me to simulate activities for students and eliminate the worry of whether a student has supplies at home or not. It will also work like a white board where I can share students thoughts live and make the class more personalized.
