My Students

"The journey of a lifetime starts with the turning of a page." Rachel Anders. My classroom has twenty-two wonderfully diverse students who come to school each day eager to learn. Guided reading allows me to spend time with each student to target areas where they may struggle in reading skills. Students also have independent reading time. The TOON books will help them through visual literacy.

Imagine that you are a student in a class of twenty-two and you are either confused about the words in the book currently presented or find it difficult to stay engaged because you already have mastered that level of book and are proficient in a higher level.

Guided reading in small groups solves this problem for all students. Reading graphic books will appeal visually to students that may struggle with text only books.

All of my students are capable of high levels of learning and have the ability to be academically successful, but they do not all learn in the same way, at the same time. Guided reading is the literacy solution. Best of all, guided reading with a Prize Winning TOONS Graphic set will promote visual literacy!

My Project

Guided reading, with level TOON graphic set will support my students in so many ways. Students will develop as individual readers while I am there for support and scaffolding. Students learn skills and strategies that will allow them to read difficult texts independently. They will experience success in reading for meaning. The students also benefit because they will receive more individualized teaching time. We all know that reading good literature will strengthen reading comprehension strategies. The TOON graphic books will be so visually appealing to the students.

I truly believe that instilling a love of reading in a child is the greatest gift a teacher can give.
