Help Me Put the T in Technology!

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are very sweet but can come from rough home environments. The classroom is their safe place to be kids. We love to create, build, learn, revise our thinking, share and so much more in the classroom. Most of my students come from Spanish speaking homes and live in small dwellings, with large families. They don't all have the support they need, so my most difficult task is helping each of them succeed and shine in their own way. Many of my students do not have access to technology at home and do not have many life experiences that others are so lucky to have. A majority of them struggle in the classroom academically, even though they give it their all. The dynamics of my class are very interesting because students range high to low academically, and some have learning disabilities. They work hard and deserve the best classroom environment. This will be my schools 1st year having a S.T.E.A.M Magnet Program (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) on site. My 3rd graders and their families have been brave enough to give Magnet a try and I want to do my best to make my classroom really stand out!

My Project

My students and I are entering into a new S.T.E.A.M Magnet program where one of our key focuses is Technology. We need Chromebooks and mouse devices. Without Chromebooks, we are very limited on our ability to access the world at our fingertips. I am excited to teach my students how to complete online research projects, type papers or essays, about internet safety and guide them in planning for their bright futures. Many of them do not have access to current Technology at home, so I would love to offer endless amounts in our classroom.

Chromebooks will enhance our new English Language Arts program by connecting with their online resources.

There are videos, writing tips, as well as stories that students can highlight key details and add notes to. Students have accounts for RAZ kids, Readtheory.org and ST Math, these Chromebooks will allow them to access these resources more frequently.
