This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember what it was like the first time you read a book that you couldn't put down? My students have not yet discovered magazines or books that capture their imaginations, but they have also not yet met the series of rhyming books that we all grew up with, "The Five Little Monkeys!"
My kindergarten students are charming, curious, inquisitive, funny, and totally unpredictable.
They are like small sponges that soak up all the information and resources available to them. Kindergartners are so excited to learn! Every year, the education department receives budget cuts, which makes teaching challenging because we can't provide all the materials our students need to experience an enriching learning environment. Since I teach in a high poverty school district, parents are more than willing to help, but their economic status allows for very small contributions to our classrooms. Although we face these challenges, I love teaching and my kids love to learn. I have spent plenty of money purchasing supplies for our classroom, but I need help. Your help could make their learning experience extraordinary!
My Project
My students need a class set of "Scholastic Magazine for Kids" to promote reading and writing, and a class set of "Five Little Monkeys". The resources requested will help my students in various ways. The "Scholastic Magazine for Kids" will provide them with current events that promote critical thinking and aid the writing process. The class set of "Five Little Monkeys" will teach rhyming, word families, and blending skills that will promote reading in my classroom. These resources will ensure an environment that is conducive to learning.
This project needs to be funded because I believe each and every child, especially a Kindergarten child who is experiencing school for the first time, should feel confident in their ability to learn and succeed.
If they were to receive the class set of scholastic magazine and a class set of Five Little Monkeys books, each of my students would get the chance to actively participate in their own education and feel good about themselves.
