My Project
I am a Social Worker at a middle school located in the heart of the South Bronx seeking funding for professional development to obtain a certificate in expressive art therapy.
During individual sessions, my students express their emotions in many forms wether it is though play, talk, or somatically.
Some don't have words to express themselves and love drawing; yet, I don't feel adequately trained in art therapy to interpret their drawings and determine how to proceed in upcoming sessions.
Working with children to heal from trauma, stress, and anxiety is my passion. I know that our sessions together will allow them to have more emotional regulation as they continue to grow through adulthood.
As I continue to support my students, I am at a point where I feel that having the addition of training in Art Therapy will provide them with a greater level of emotional growth as a result of me being a more skilled social worker.
I have researched several online universities and found one that will allow me to continue studying without disrupting my full-time school work schedule. I am committed to the emotional well being of my students and will complete all of my training online in the evenings.
Throughout my coursework my students will benefit from my learnings as I will bring my new knowledge back to our individual counseling sessions.
