This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Why do letters change their sounds so much? This is one of the questions that one of my ESOL students asked me this year. My little first graders struggle with their phonics sounds, they struggle more when they are language learners.
My students are an amazing group of first graders.
At times, my little learners have bigger issues in their lives than you and I could imagine. All of my students receive free lunch, for many this is the only meal they will have that day. Some of my little ones play many roles at home, including care takers to siblings. Above all this, they are an amazing group of learners. They are so eager to learn, and to work as hard they can to learn as much as they can. They love being in class, this is their safe place, they are loved no matter what. Nothing cures a case of the Mondays as walking out to pick up my little ones in the morning and seeing their smiling faces. I try to give them as many learning opportunities as I can to meet their needs and make learning safe, and fun for them. Who are they, they are an amazing group of first graders!
My Project
My students will use the computer games to reinforce the phonics skills that we learn in class. The variety of games will allow my students to practice the skill that they are on, allowing for all the students in the class to be working on their independent skill. This would be an amazing gift for us, in our class we have reading skills from emergent, to advance. We also have students who are learning English for the first time. With the games, my students will have fun while reinforcing their needed skills to become stronger readers.
Help differentiate our classroom of readers.
The computer games will allow each student in the class to learn at their independent level. You can help us build our confidence and help us feel success. Thank you!
