Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are from a large, urban low-income community that welcomes families from different ethnic backgrounds. We are a Title I school in a low-income community; I have twenty-five English Language Learners in my classroom whose first language is other than English. Free breakfast and free lunch are available to every child in our school each day. Nutrition Services started providing free meals to children ages one to 18. Every child receives a grab & go lunch and a grab & go breakfast for the next day.

Despite their hardships at home my students are sweet, caring, highly motivated and come to school ready to learn with big warm smiles on their faces.

More than 50% my students read below grade level and will fall further behind during this unprecedented times. They would benefit from having the necessary resources to help increase their success in our newly established distance remote learning. As of March 11th, my students started learning at home. and schools will be closed due to the COVID-19 virus for the rest of the school year. This presents a challenge, as most of my students do not have Chromebooks at home.

My Project

Please help me give two of my students two Chromebooks for home and distance learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Two of my students are not able to participate in remote learning opportunities because they don't have computers at home. Their parents have multiple children, but our school only provided one Chromebook per family.

Two of my students need two Chromebooks to participate in remote learning activities, complete their remote learning assignments for the rest of the school year, and continue their learning at home during the summer months.

My students will use the Chromebooks to access google classroom assignments, interactive math lessons, video lessons, read digital books at their level and participate in google meetings. These Chromebooks will also help them with their social emotional needs during these unprecedented times as they will be able to interact with their classmates daily. These Chromebooks will be mailed directly to my students' homes.
