This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am going into my second year as an elementary school counselor at my site. The students at my school are amazing and we have not had a student council/ASB-type club at my school for several years.
I want to start a "Student Leaders" group that will give my 3rd-5th grade students a voice in the activities we do on our campus.
I especially want to pay attention to different cultural heritage months and have my students be able to teach others about their cultures.
This is especially important for my campus as we are taking in the dual-language immersion program from another elementary school in our district that is closing and are expecting to get over 200 new students. I want to highlight cultural diversity with my students being the leaders.
I believe this program will have a great positive influence on my campus culture and make the new students coming in feel excited and welcome.
