Help Me Keep My Students Safe!

My students need to have their personal information disposed of in a safe and secure manner.

My Students

Imagine organizing your files only to discover you have an outdated special education document (like an Individualized Education Plan), or still have paperwork for a student who's moved away. Then imagine sitting by the trash can and tearing up those documents by hand!

My students are a wonderful, creative, rambunctious and diverse bunch!

I am a special education teacher in a K-8 public school. My students have a variety of needs ranging from learning disabilities to autism to emotional and/or behavioral challenges. At this International Baccalaureate magnet school, my students have learned to ask powerful questions and think globally, despite what is stacked against them. My 4th and 5th graders never fail to amaze me when they ask questions like, "Why does water have no taste?" and "Is believing in God the same thing as religion?" They are constantly questioning, discovering, and impacting the world we all share.

My Project

After reorganizing my filing cabinet after winter break, I was left with a large stack of paper containing personal information about my students. I sat on the floor and tore up each document. The thought of my students' phone numbers, addresses, even social security numbers ending up in the wrong hands genuinely frightens me. I need a paper shredder to ensure these documents will be disposed of properly. This cross-cutting shredder will allow me to destroy sensitive information so that my students and I will not be in danger of identity theft or fraud. Shredding special education documents will also save me a great deal of time so I will be able to spend more of my day face-to-face with my students--right where I belong.

Your donation is critical because it impacts my whole school, not just me.

You can make a difference for all 350 students in this building, not just the 16 on my caseload. This paper shredder will be shared with any teacher (or social worker or administrator) who needs it, ensuring that sensitive information will not end up in the wrong hands. Please donate to help keep these students safe.
