My students need these Read-Along book sets to help improve their expression and fluency when reading, which are important skills as emergent bilinguals.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A typical day in my classroom consists of students working independently or within small groups. During Literacy time, I like to give them choices for activities designed to improve their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. These read-along books will be highly valued in our classroom.
My students are a lovable bunch who enjoy working hands on with different items.
Once their curiosities are piqued, there's no stopping the flow of questions that arise in their minds. They're smart, motivated, and love to learn about different things. They work very hard and enjoy seeing the fruit of their labor, which has been the result of high levels of motivation in my classroom.
My school is classified as a Title 1 school, meaning the majority of the students come from low-income families. Having access to quality materials at school is crucial to the improvement of their learning experience. They are also emergent bilinguals and most of them come from homes where English is not their first language. Often times, the only chance they have to practice their English is when they're at school. Therefore, I take Literacy time in my classroom very seriously because I understand that much of the success of their academic future depends upon what I can do to create life-long learners.
My Project
My students love reading, listening to, and being told stories! They love stories so much that at times they ask me to make stories up from the top of my head (don't ask me why!). One of the most popular literacy centers in our room is the listening center. They love being able to read along and listen to stories set to music, sound effects, and read with wonderful expression. During listening center time, students will be able to pair up and listen to these stories as they are being narrated. This will provide them with exposure to fluent and expressive reading. It will also help my emerging readers because they will be able to read-along with the story and not feel intimidated by books they cannot read independently. While my children work in pairs to practice their reading with these read-aloud sets, I will be able to work in small groups with other children in the class who need more instructional support from me. It would be a huge benefit for us all!
Due to not having consistent exposure to native-like English, reading fluency and expression are some of the areas with which they often struggle.
Currently, I have only a small number of read-along sets. Due to this small amount, students end up listening to the same stories repetitively, which they don't mind, however I feel they deserve better. These books will make them so happy and I'm sure they'll be even MORE excited about becoming more fluent & expressive readers.
