Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work for an organization that prides itself on reaching out to students that have some big challenges and helping them to prepare for college and careers with a strong college preparatory program. Our school is the first public boarding school of its kind, giving students 24 hours a day to grow.
Many of our students have been touched by the foster care system; have current or past incarcerated parents or fall under the lowest 200th percentile in the poverty range.
By giving them twenty-four hours to grow, the students learn not just about content areas that are important like Math, Language, Reading, Writing, Science, Art, Music, and Dance; but in addition to that, they learn life skills.
I am the founding music professor here and my goal for the music program is to create engaging programming that will train them for college music programs, support them in their growth in the STEAM subjects; and give students valuable music learning experiences whether they are musically talented or not.
My Project
I'm passionate about creating valuable music learning experiences for my kids. Not only are we title 1, our families NEVER pay for anything at Seed. Don't my kids deserve the opportunity to have a functioning band program like their well of counterparts? Help me start one for them. They deserve and need a quality music program. Eventually, this percussion ensemble can turn into a marching band which will help our kids so much! A comprehensive music program is afoot. Will you help?
