Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a P.E./Health teacher, I have the great pleasure to work with 6th-8th grade students. These students come from many different situations and circumstances which gives our school a rich diversity. This diversity provides our students with opportunities to learn about culture, tolerance, and empathy as they interact each day. We harness strength from our unique student body in the hopes of becoming a beacon of unity and social understanding in our community.

I teach at a Title I School in Nevada in which the high percentage of my students come from bilingual homes and receive free lunch.

My students often face tough obstacles in their lives but arrive to school smiling and ready to learn. They love their teachers and they adore their principal. Our school truly is a community – a family. We each do our part as student and teacher work side by side with one mission in mind: our students’ success. We teach them about how to be positive examples of respect in their community. We show them how to overcome their challenges by hard work and patience. We work together to succeed.

My Project

The SHAPE America conference is intended for PE and health educators. I attended this conference three years ago and it was incredible. I was able to bring back so much in terms of new health curriculum ideas and new PE activities and games. Unfortunately, my school hasn't been able to send me back to this conference since I last attended.

With the help of the DonorsChoose community, I'm hopeful I will be able to attend the conference again this year.

I'm very much looking forward to collaborating with the best teaching minds in my field and bringing all that information back to better my teaching practices.
