Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
By donating to this project, you will help me give art supplies to students at a Title I school. All of my students are recent immigrants who use art to develop English language skills, express their emotions, and adjust to their life away from home. Many have left economic or climate-related difficulties, escaped war, and are trying to find community and belonging in Brooklyn.
My students create meaningful art projects that connect them to their native country and cultures, motivate positive behavior and academic outcomes, and uplift our school community.
We need art supplies to do this. The yarn, crochet hooks, paint, and canvas will allow students to experiment with various materials in order to convey their artistic message.
As a new teacher I do not have access to many art materials, but with your support I can allow my students to explore various artmaking processes. Additionally, I can extend their learning to afterschool, a valuable space for high schoolers to deepen their relationship to other students, teachers, and our school community.
