My Students
I am a teacher teaching in Brooklyn, NY. Our school serves students in grades 6-8. My school provides rigorous academics and social/emotional training to students by trained professionals such as license and certified teachers, OT, PT, Speech in a safe learning environment. We are working every day to close the achievement gap between our students' abilities and those of their peers, despite the socio-economic gap between the groups. Sometimes the task of closing the achievement gap seems almost impossible to complete and can be daunting. One of our primary tasks is to determine how close the achievement gap is when students do not have the necessary materials to meet or succeed academically and emotionally. Our goal is to improve the lives of our students in every way. We do our best to support our students learning by providing them with appropriate reading and writing materials that would help them acquire much-needed skills and the ability to excel academically.
My Project
Help Me Foster A Love of Reading In My Students! As a General and Special Education teacher, fostering a love for reading is a must in my students. I need your help to do so. I would love to foster a love for reading in my students. Unfortunately, my students come from places where they don't have as much access to books that I would like them to read. Most of my students don't have access to a local library or a personal library at home. "The time I spent with books transformed my life and sparked my imagination. I wanted to create a similar experience for my students." To help foster a love for reading in my students, I've selected nine essential books that I would like my students to read throughout the year. I plan to introduce students to novels and other books they can see themselves. Students will read one story per month in a book club of twenty students. By reading relatable books, students will be more inclined to read. Students will develop decoding, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension skills. Students will build reading stamina as they read with their reading buddies, participate in book talks, answer comprehension questions, and visit places only a book can take them. By reading these books, students will make predictions, connect to the characters, ask questions before, during, and after every reading experience.
To help foster a love for reading in my students, I've selected nine important novels to connect with my students and improve reading and comprehension skills.
You can help to support my students by donating to our book club. Would you mind supporting my efforts by contributing to our students' library? Thank you so much for being so supportive of fostering a love for reading in my students.
