My Project

Our Early Childhood Special Education classroom is a vibrant and supportive space for young children, ages 3-5, who are navigating a range of developmental disabilities. Recognizing that many of our students experience unique sensory processing needs, this project aims to create a more intentionally sensory-rich environment that fosters engagement, learning, and emotional regulation.

These resources will help us create a calmer, more focused, and ultimately more effective learning space where every child feels secure and empowered to participate fully.

Noise-Reducing Headphones: To minimize auditory distractions and create a more calming environment for students with sound sensitivities, promoting focus during activities and transitions.

Fidgets: A variety of quiet, hands-on fidget toys to help students channel energy, reduce anxiety, and improve concentration during seated tasks and learning times.

Chew Necklaces: Safe and appropriate oral motor tools that provide calming sensory input for students who seek oral stimulation, helping them to self-regulate and focus.

Sensory Mats: Textured mats to provide tactile input for feet and bodies during floor activities, circle time, and transitions, aiding in body awareness and grounding.

Swivel Chair: A gentle movement option that can provide vestibular input for students who benefit from rocking and spinning motions, helping them to self-regulate and stay engaged.

Sensory Tent: A dedicated cozy space that offers a calming retreat with reduced visual and auditory stimulation, providing a safe haven for students who need a break to regulate their sensory systems.

By investing in these targeted sensory tools, you will directly impact the daily experiences of our young learners. Your contribution will help us create a classroom where sensory needs are met, allowing our students to better access learning, build social skills, and develop greater emotional well-being.
