My Project

I am new to teaching AP World History (APWH), Academic Decathlon, Academic Pentathlon (eighth-grade team), and a veteran 7th and 10th grade World History teacher. Many students are struggling emotionally and socially with being back in the classroom.

With this in mind, I want to support my students' mental health as much as possible.

I want to support my students by giving them supplies I have never had to ask for before: items specific to stress relief.

My students need access to stress relieving strategies, such as using a stress ball, fidget toy, or chew necklace. They have shown a lot more stress this year than in previous years, so these items will be a great way to show them new strategies with how to deal with their anxiety.

I am seeing most of this stress from my high school Academic Decathlon and 8th grade Pentathlon teams, but also my incoming 7th grade students. My teams struggle because they worry about not doing as well as they hope, but the 7th grade students are nervous about the long school day that they are no longer used to attending in-person. Many of them are also showing signs of stress with the heat, so a rotating fan with help keep them cool and give out a calming noise.
