This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This year I will be teaching first grade. Most of my students come from high need homes where parents struggle to provide for them. The school is located in an ESL community.
I really need your help so that I can help my students the best way I know how. I have been out of the classroom for the past few years teaching explicit reading skills to the lowest first graders. Because of the budget cuts I have to go back to the class without any reading specialist to support me. I am very motivated to apply all that I have learned about teaching the ESL population how to read. I need your help by providing me with the right tools. In order for me to take a small group without compromising the rest of the students during centers time, I need to make sure that my students' time is not waisted. I also need to address the issue of my students not having the oral language knowledge they need to possess in order for them to become independent readers and writers. I would also like to implement a rich morning message routine that will enrich my students' vocabulary. For me to truly know what my students are absorbing from my lessons, I need to make sure that they are not cheating during assessment time.
So, I came up with a bunch of really nice centers that I made on my own. I saw a few beautiful centers that will definitely attract my students' attention. My students need to practice their sentence structure with the sentence building center and the Punctuation center. They would also benefit from working on their contractions in the contraction center. I would also like to build their oral language using the Classroom News Pocket Chart and the Let's Talk Language Boxes. The Privacy Partitions would really help me figure out what each child needs help with after I administer the assessments.
I know that I can make a difference!!! I am determined to create life long readers and thinkers in my class. Please help me achieve my goal. Thanks for all of your help.
